James Morrison is a man women love. Good looking. Talented. Great fun to be with. And of course, he loves women. But he has one flaw. He can't commit.
Samantha Collins is determined not to make the same mistakes her mother made. Living day to day off the government and loving the wrong, loser men. Since the age of sixteen, she's had her life outlined better than any AAA roadmap. Her plans include marrying Charles Winthrope III and bearing Charles Winthrope IV in three years. But fate has a way of intervening and destroying the best-laid-plans.
Sam always thought she had too much sense to simply fall for James when they spend time together because he's helping her improve her relationship with Charles. She tumbles. Hard. He's sexy, fun, and likes to play. But when an incident forces Sam to realize James will never fit into her plans, she finds out that she and her mother have more in common than she'd thought. They both chase after the impossible.
JAMES is the third in the California Series where four friends, caught in a time warp, can't move on because they're stuck on their own ideas of the perfect dream. But sometimes life works in mysterious ways and they are forced by circumstances to change.

My best book in the series was Promises, Promises (California Series) and that proved a hard act to follow. I wasn't mad about this H in the first 2 books because he was a womaniser and commitment phobic, although he'd had an 8 year relationship with his brother's wife, before his brother married her. Thinking about that now, it seems weird to say he was commitment phobic when he had actually been committed for 8 years, he just didn't want marriage. In this book he gets involved with one of the partners in his architectural firm because she was having issues in her long term relationship. The h was expecting marriage from her partner but he accused her of being staid and boring. She gets involved with the H and before you know it she falls in love. Of course that sparks all his commitment issues and there is the inevitable break up. I expected that from the start so it wasn't too terrible. I enjoyed the book and the series.Product details

James California Series Book 3 edition by Sandy Loyd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Judging James from the first book of the series, I was not sure I wanted to read more about him. But I ended up liking him much more and enjoyed the book. It was a good series.
It has been a long time since I sat down to read a book. I am so glad I chose to read yours. I have read 2 series of your books now. I find that I can't wait to take a break to read. Reading makes me a much happier person. So, thank you for bringing happiness back into my life. Now if I could stop eating your books so fast, I could save a little money. But I can't... thanks for the good read
Really enjoyed this book and the entire series. It's one of those that I would like to see continued as it was such a fun read. Great character development and fun to see James find his own happy ending.
Based on the book synopsis I was prepared to hate James and by extensions hate Sam for falling for him, but he really was a genuinely kind and likable guy. Even if he never committed he showed Sam what a relationship could and should be like. Charles was stuffy, unemotional and not really in love with Sam. She fit is "ideal" of what a wife should be instead of HIS wife and the same is true of Sam. I enjoyed the California scenery and this story made me finish quickly just so I could see how it turned out.
I love a series that follows the stories of multiple characters. I felt as if the third book ended very abruptly. There's no interaction with the other key people / family members at the conclusion of the book. Considering how much the characters are intertwined, it definitely needed an epilogue. And by the third book, definitely an epilogue of all three books.
Also in this particular book there is an obvious romance between two partners in a firm that didn't seem to be all that hidden and yet there was no mention of any potential conflict or problem this may have caused in the office. Generally I liked the book and characters, it just seemed they needed a bit more development.
I read three books in this series and generally enjoyed them. However, parts of the second book and most of the third book were cut and paste versions of book one. The "love scenes" were almost verbatim - I got to the point in book three where I read the first sentence or partial first sentence then skipped to the next (newer) pages. It was fair holiday break reading (I'm rethinking my three stars) - good for falling asleep. I enjoyed the characters for the most part, but the plot was driven by all women involved, having finished grad school and working in professional capacities, constantly thinking of the white picket fence outcome. I just got tired of the formula after awhile - enjoyed the San Francisco references, Lake Tahoe, etc. Nice, easy reading, relatively well-edited, but by book three, just repetitive.
James is the third book in this trilogy about a group of young friends in San Francisco who are living the life we all dream about. The story takes place in San Mateo and weaves the romance throughout the Northern California coast line. I love this couple James and Samantha. I really related to Samantha she represents how anyone can overcome a tough childhood, move away find the good life and with hard work can achieve success. The story goes beyond a basic easy to read love story with a lot of depth to the characters some great steamy nights spent together. The conflicts are real life and as they try to figure out how to make things work they both realize they still have some growing up to do. I found the book enchanting, humorus and touching. A great end to the trilogy and it completed the circle for me. Highly recommended.
