As others have suggested, this was much too short. A well-founded story which could easily have been fleshed out to novella, if not a full-length novel.The empowered few, with lofty and misguided expectations of the realm's scientists, an insightful member of the science community, and a mysterious domestic come together in a tale of eternal failure, political treachery, and a seeming supernatural protector of the 'hero'. Smoke, mirrors, and a touch of "who is guiding whom?".
Beyond my strong wish for the story to continue, nothing of it detracts from it being worthy of five stars.

The God Machine is a fantastic Pelican Brief like heart hitting page turner...& then, unfortunately because it's a short story...just stops! Bummer! I really vote for this author to make her short stories into full length feature films! They're great beginnings to what could be really intriguing and fun full length novels. So far, I am a big fan of all your work! Keep writing, please!!!
Too short! The world created by the author is hypnotic. The story as it unfolds reveals the layers and the potential for so much more. I've read some of the author's other work and grabbed this on a lark. Glad I did. Was sorry to learn there wasn't a dozen books to follow. Alas, we take the joy where we can.
